The Batwa lived in the forest that is now Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, and were moved out of it when the park was gazetted in 1991. They received no land and little compensation, and the settlements along the forest edge today are what followed from that. The visits below are run by those communities and add a half-day to a gorilla itinerary. Read them as an introduction to people living beside a forest they no longer have access to, and ask your operator where the fee goes.
